Coaching Selection and Process

The 2012 Spring/Summer Travel Basketball season is quickly approaching!  In an effort to prepare our youth for the best travel basketball experience, LWPYBO requires ALL coaches to complete an application and submit to a background check. Assistant coaches’ selection and approval occurs after the head coaches’ selectionsPlease note, holding a position as a head or assistant coach during the 2011 travel season will be taken into consideration during selection; however, it does not guarantee retention of the same position for the 2012 travel season. All returning coaches must submit an application. The schedule for this is as follows: Deadline for HEAD COACH applications is Friday 10/7/11.  Applications may be submitted via e-mail to mgarvin@lakeworth.org or mailed.  Attention LWPYBO Travel Basketball Board HEAD COACHES selection.  You will be contacted upon approval for the 2012 Travel Basketball Season.  Each applicant should include the following in their application e-mail: (*Must Include)

*Full Name
*Address
*Date of Birth
*Social Security Number
*Phone (home & cell)
Occupation (travel
or weekend commitments)
*LWPYBO Coaching experience (all sports)
*Lake Worth Recreational
Basketball experience (coaching & directorships)
*Travel Basketball experience (LWPYBO or otherwise)
Other applicable basketball experience (player or coaching)
Preferred Gender & Grade applying to coach Name, age, & grade of son or daughter that would be participating in the program

Prior to applying, be aware that a head coaching position is an enormous time commitment. Applicants whose occupation requires extensive weekday or weekend travel may be better suited as an assistant coach.  LWPYBO Travel Basketball will support boys & girls teams for players currently in grades 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th grades. High school teams will be created based on interest level. NOTE: The USSSA girls division has gone to a “grade-base” format, therefore age is not the determining factor in player eligibility. Girls AAU Basketball is currently “age-base”, age determined as of July 1st for girls and September 1st for boys. Coaches of girls teams have the option to remain “age-base” to maintain AAU eligibility, and should make that request as part of their application. If you have additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact the Travel Basketball Director, Melissa Garvin, at mgarvin@lakeworth.org or 561-533-7363.

Please mail applications to:
